Introduction:
I believe that I have progressed from AS to A2 as I have developed my skills in post production. At AS I think that my skills in using editing softwares was relatively basic whereas at A2 I could then use my knowledge and gain even more technical ability to achieve a more professional and industry standard level of production of my work.
What editing decisions were made? How did they inform the production?
For our foundation portfolio we chose to produce a 'thriller' genre opening sequence, in which a young girl was running away from an unknown villain, hence the title 'classified'. We chose to edit using the software Imovie in which we carried out basic editing decisions such as an linear structure, and slow paced cuts. However in order to make the colouration fit the intended mise-en-scene we chose to decrease the saturation thus to enforce a gloomy effect. However for my advanced portfolio we did the opposite. Since our music video was a product of happiness we chose to increase the saturation, in order to make the colouration in the footage pop out, and set the mise-en-scene as cheerful to audiences.
Sounds added or altered? (diegetic and non-diegetic)
For AS we used primarily non-diegetic sound. We featured a soundtrack in the background which commenced as at a steady beat which thus speeded up as the plot became more intensified. We also featured non-diegetic sound effects such as a phone ringing, and heart beating noises in order to exaggerate the nervousness of the protagonist. However my my A2 music video we chose a combination of both diegetic and non-diegetic sounds. We chose to keep in the sound from the original footage for some clips of the audience screaming during the concert setting. We done this in order to add realism to the product, and challenge convention i.e. only featuring the soundtrack as the background sound.
Images adapted o the music video, CD, digipak, magazine advert
We did not require as much use of photoshop or editing softwares a AS however for A2 I required the use of these softwares to produce my digipak and magazine advert. I used microsoft publisher as my frame for both my digipak and magazine advert, however used photoshop to edit the imagery in order to appear as more vibrant.
Any special effects added?
Titles or credits?
For AS we used an introvert style of titles, placing the directors and casts names in appearance order, to then finally presenting the title 'Classified'. We presented the title classified within the middle of the footage so then as the protagonist ran through it each letter would disappear one at time in order to erase the title. We did this using the software keynote, due to not being an available effect via Imovie. However this task proved to be particularly challenging due to having to be particularly time coordinated and precise in order to look polished and neat.
